life is hilarious | Jan 30, 2010

I wasn’t there, but my "significant other" is a Ka employee. I am checking.

EDIT: She isn’t allowed to comment too far, but the guy who fell kind of fell by design, stopped, then suddenly fell uncontrolled again only another 12 feet or so into some chairs. He only stayed overnight in the hospital (business requirement), and he’s going to miss a couple days but he’s fine. Good to hear. Glad the show didn’t have any other problems.

Have you ever read a poet with similar style?
Sara’s Song

His Hat and coat was black as coal,
I recognized him from a story told.

I wondered if it was……, could it be?
Why is he dressed in black from his head to his feet?
When he walked in the room got cold,
Somehow his presence intriged my soul.

He bought the bar a round, and left the wattress a tip,
Lifted his glass and took a sip.
I wanted to meet him and thank him for the drink.
A strange man stopped me and said, "don’t do it!! he’s not what you think.
He’s a dangerous man with a life full of pain,
Some people believe he’s completely insane.
Many have met him, but he dosn’t have a friend.
Those who go with him are never seen again.

He lives in a house high on the hill,
At the end of the road, by the old saw mill.
He’s a man of solitude, he’ll give you a chill!!
No telling how many people he’s killed."

I said to the stranger "Let go of my arm,
If you’ve never met him than why be alarmed?
Just saying thank you you couldn’t do me any harm,
He seems to posess a peculiar charm."

The strange man said "don’t do it!!" Like someone in need.
Then I noticed his teeth were starting to bleed.
I pulled on my arm and hurried away,
I couln’t believe he aproached me that way.

I walked up to the man dressed in black,
Causously I tappd him on the back.
But I wasn’t afraid when I saw his face,
It brought me comfort, in a lonely place.

His eyes seemed to hold me, in the middle of a crowded room,
Some how light was shining through.
His smile seemed to me like one I once knew,
I said do you mind, may I sit with you?
He said" Idon’t mind," tipped his hat and said, "Please do."
I said "Thank you for the drink, how are you?" and asked him his name.
He said "Did that guy just tell you that I’m insane?
I lied and said "No I think he’s lost"
In that case he said, "The name is Jack Frost"

"The name is Jack Frost, Alius JT Rhyms,
Calling out to the world from a labyrinth in time.
A lone surrvivor of violent crimes.
You’re welcome, and I’m doing fine."
He said "Now You seem like a nice enough girl,
Come with me and we’ll change the world.
We’ll deliver the goods and count the cost,
We’ll heal the sick and save the lost,
We’ll get it back girl 100 fold!!!!!!!!
We’ll serve one Master and He’ll save our souls."

A peculiar man that was for certain,
But I was hurt and I was tired of hurtin,
If I went with him who knows what could be?
Would I live forever or would he try to kill me?

He said "You don’t need to be nervous, don’t be afraid,
The table is set and the supper is made.
I’m not asking for anything, if that’s what your afraid of,
Thats not the stuff that JT is made of"
So I said lets go and I took his hand,
Was I headed for hell or The Promised Land.

We drove for some time, passed the old saw mill.
Then I could see his mansion high on a hill.
His words were warm and soothing to the ear.
I felt close to his side, as we drew near.

His home was lush when we walk throgh the doors,
There were shandalires from the ceiling and marble floors.
There were servants and fountains and everyone smiled,
They welcomed me like an expected child.

As we sat at the table everyone there,
Were thankful and giving and glad I was there.
I forgot about my troubles, my desperation and lost hopes,
I listened to every word that they spoke.

I had to ask, "is this what it is I need to understand,
Have I reached the Promised Land?"

He said "We drink new wine and our bread is unleavened,
Our Master is Devine and we are reaching for heaven.
His Holy Presence filles the air,
And in our hearts his spirit we share.
We’ve been born with a second birth,
And a disire to see Gods’ will done on earth.
In Him we aspire to live,
We recieve freely, so freely we give.

Many lambs dwell here out of His chosen,
We come from places were cold hearts have been frozen.
We walk together casing off sorrow and strife,
With a commitment to experiance Eternal Life.

My burden was lifted my search was complete,
There were for leaf clovers covering my feet.
I found the rainbow, I don’t need any gold.
There’s more than enough here for the hungry soul.

The rain was warm and clean as it showered,
he said read the red and pray for the power.
I’ve never left and I’ll never leave,
I found my family and we believe.

So drink new wine and eat bread unleavened,
Let Gods’ will be done on earth as it is in Heaven

I would say a combination of Poe and Eliot.

Interesting starting like a vampire poem and ending up as a description of a cult.

BTW, it’s chandelier.

HELP!!! HURRY!!! Why did they kick me out of the dance club?
Last friday night i decided to go out after a prolonged day of workings and blow out some steams at the local dancing club ok? So friday i brought my clubbed clothings to the work offices with me so i could just change out of my work clothes, hop rapidly into my suzuk, and arrive promptly at the disco fuego fuego at opening hour so i could be the first to get ins ok? After changing out of my ankled skirt into my goucho pants and turtled necked top i quickly made it to the clubbed just in time for openings. I was of coursed the first to arrives so i went to claim my dancing arena space ok? i set my 4 gallon water jub on the floors to saves my spot while i went to let out my steams at the bars ok? i immeditately yelled and demanded to the bartendered that i needed a cocsa cola classics, and then i followed by saying hurry ups! right now! ok? so after having several gulbs of my cocsa cola classics, i took a very larged breaths and quickly made my way back to my dancing arena to begin showing off my moves to the fellow clubbed goers ok? so i was dancing very violently and rapidly swaying as i was very into the musics and letting out my steams. i was tossing my head back and forths while waving my hands and arms in the airs in a circular countered clockedwising patten my next dance move increasingly violents. I kicked and thrusted while doing a "grapedvine" to the right. after several minutes of this i had to take a breaks because i was gasping for air, turning reds, and soaked with sweatings so i grabbed my watered jub and rapidly began chuggings the waters out of there while simultasingly pouring the watered over my body and head to cools off ok? i was careful not to sprays anyone with my watered jub. after finishing the 4 gallon jub, i placed the jub in my left hand and began dancing violently with it and beating it like a drumed along with the beats of the clubbing musics. A very tall large black colored man approached me and asked me to be removed from the clubs and i said "oh no thank you" and he explained that i was being removed from the clubs for violent and erratic behaviors, i was then escorted by another tall large mexican colored man, should i go back to the clubbed tonight or is it too early? should i just try another clubbed? does anyone have any suggestions for other dancing clubs in upper minnesote? ok?

Don’t do that again, ok?
daniel *little prince* | Feb 02, 2010

I’m more disturbed by the fact that you went to a club and drank Coca Cola.
Gym Jock | Feb 02, 2010

Probably cause you can’t speak English.

I don’t know? I can’t decipher what you have written. It’s all one, runon sentence full of impossible to understand words. If you, perchance, tried to actually use the words correctly, and break things down into pieces that we can understand, maybe, I could find the patience to get through all the crap to what it was that you did to break the rules at this "dances clubbed", but I have no Idea what is going on.

I DO think it’s kinda weird that you are soooooo desperate for us to HURRY!!!! to explain something that happened five days ago.

Mother-in-law movies?
I’m having trouble with my boyfriend’s mother. I’m looking for movies that could put some humor in this situation for me?

Anyone know any funny movies about in-laws?

I’ve seen monster-in-law, and meet the parents. So wondering if there are others besides those two!

Thanks!

These are some movies that involve the mother before the wedding, so it’s not actually a mother-in-law, but may still help:
While You Were Sleeping
American Wedding
Blast from the Past
Son-in-law
Wedding Singer
Wedding Planner

Actual mother-in-law in movies:
Just Married
Christmas Vacation
Truman Show

Prime.- though they’re just dating.
Only The Lonely.- great John Candy movie but more of a romantic/drama/comedy.
Smother.- haven’t seen it yet, with Diane Keaton.
The In-Laws.- there’s 2 versions.
The Bird Cage.
Guess Who.

Monster in law,
it is really funny
Christopher | Dec 20, 2009

My suggestion would have been "Monster in Law"…with Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez. That is the best mother-in-law movie that I know.

Other funny one is "The In Laws" with Michael Douglas..but it is not mother-in-law..it’s more about marrying into the other family.

Trip to Tokyo, Japan.?
I’ve been to Narita, but only for half a day as a lay-over on my way to the Philippines. A buddy and I have decided to take a trip to Tokyo, during Tokyo Game Show later this year. Questions:

Where to stay near / in Tokyo that will be affordable but safe?

What to do for 2 weeks since the show is only a couple days?

Low price, eco airfare?

How to make a few friends to hang out with while we’re there?

What to bring / not bring, both material and money wise?

Just, overall, how to make it an enjoyable experience. I spent a month in the Philippines, hung out with a girl from there (not in Manila) the entire time and had the best time of my life just seeing places and having fun. I want to have a similar experience in Japan. Experiencing the culture, seeing interesting things, and just chilling with the natives.

i lived in japan in yokohama which is half an hour away from tokyo. ermm 100 pounds is like 14000 yen. when i was staying in a hotel waiting for our house to get ready it was hotel new grand and near a china town, a japanese theme park and a promanade :D i cant really help though sorry i just thought id give you some experience of living there
Claire | Feb 05, 2010

The best I can do is give you some insights from my own trip this past November.

I stayed at the Tokyo Ryokan, which is a nice traditional-style inn run by a very nice and helpful couple. They would be happy to give you all sorts of recommendations of things to see and places to go. They even helped me find a movie theatre playing a certain film when I hit them with a rush request.

The price is cheap and, unlike the more expensive ryokan, does not include meals. However, there is a plethora of places to get cheap food from nearby… convenience stores, 500 yen tempura, hambugers, etc. It is also right behind one Buddhist temple and within walking distance of the Sensoji Temple, Nakamise Arcade and Kaminarimon Gate complex down in Asakusa. Just off of the Sensoji Temple is a place that just opened in November called the Amuse Museum. It’s mostly textiles and clothing, but also has dance performances, craftmaking demonstrations and an affordable, brief version of a tea ceremony. Also in Asakusa are the Hanayashiki amusement park, Edo Shitamachi Traditional Crafts Museum, the waterbus terminal to take you to Odaiba and the Tobu Line terminal if you want to go to Nikko for a day trip.

Two whole weeks is a long time for Tokyo. Once you do the main touristy things, there pretty much isn’t much left to do but hang out, which may or may not suit you based on your interests. Towards the end of my week and a half, I was starting to find it tedious and wished I had more time in Kyoto. So you might indeed want to take a day trip out to Nikko. The main attractions there are the complex of shrines dedicated to the Tokugawa shoguns. They can be pretty packed, but you can veer off the main drag and follow the river to the Kanmanfaguchi Abyss and Bake Jizo statues. I found it more enjoyable to take the bus from Nikko to Lake Chuzenji. Kegon Falls is amazing and the lake is nearly as beautiful as those here in my own backyard, the Canadian Rocky Mountains. You could probably even wing a couple separate day trips, one to Nikko proper and another to Lake Chuzenji and it’s National Park.

Another site on the outskirts of Tokyo is the ruins of Hachioji Castle. It’s a pretty good walk just to get there (and you’ll pass the Tama nature museum if you want to stop in there too). The ruins themselves aren’t that much to look at - despite it being in the list of Japan’s 100 best castles - but the hike up the mountain is really nice. I chose to do that rather than the more popular Mount Takao, which is also in the area. If you’re a Studio Ghibli fan, then you would want to go to the Studio Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. It’s incredible. Not far from there on the train line is the Edo-Tokyo Open-Air Architectural Museum, which is a pleasant park full of historic buildings.

In Tokyo proper, you could probably spend a couple days in Ueno Park visiting all the museums. I crammed the Shitamachi Museum, Ueno Zoo, National Museum of Nature and Science and Tokyo National Museum all into one day and it was probably the most exhausting day of my trip. But that’s if you like museums. I thought they were fantastic, but you might like just visiting Ueno Park itself.

Tokyo Disney Resort is a heck of a lot of fun. Tokyo Disneyland is alright, speaking as someone who has been to Disneyland in California and Paris, but Tokyo Disneysea blew me away completely. It’s an amazing, very sophisticated theme park. Near to it is the Tokyo Sea Life Park aquarium in a big glass dome thing.

Odaiba has really nice sunsets, but that’s about it. The futuristic buildings were kind of underwhelming. You could try to Oedo-Onsen Monogatari spa if you want a spa sort of experience, with lots of Edo-era theming and food options.

If you do your research and study your maps, Tokyo is a very walkable city. I managed to comb pretty good chunks of Asakusa in my strolls. That would be a pretty good bet for street level culture if you stayed down there. Harajuku is dead, so far as the cool-looking EGL kids go. Akihabara is the place to go if you like lots of neon, loud J-pop and miads handing you flyers to go to their cafe every block. Oh, and if you like anime stuff. They have a number of whole department stores full up with anime merchandise. And tasty little crepe stands too.

I wish I could help you with the question about where to meet people, but unfortunately I didn’t really meet anyone while I was there. I’m not particularly good with languages though, so that barrier was well in place.

Samantha or Eliza? Help name my baby girl before I have her! I'm 36 wks!?
I love both names equally! Our last name is three syllables and begins with the letter E (kind of like Enderman). The middle name will be Grace - family name.

Love that Eliza is unique and conveys a sassy, spunky individual. Not sure about the double vowels for first and last names though.

Love the name Samantha and all of its various nicknames…and even though it’s more common we don’t know anyone w/ that name in our circles.

Thoughts?? (Please no other suggestions - it’’s taken a lot to choose these two names!)
To add a few details: I’m concerned w/ Eliza sounding silly w/ the last name. What do people think of a name like "Eliza Enderman"?

Wonderful World (2009)

IMDB rating: 6.80

Plot: In this sometimes moving dark comedy, Broderick plays Ben-a failed children’s folk singer and less-than-extraordinary weekend dad. Deeply cynical, Ben’s sole pleasure in life is derived from chess games with his Senegalese roommate Ibou. When Ibou is suddenly struck ill and an insensitive municipal employee exacerbates the emergency situation, Ben’s pessimistic worldview seems unequivocally confirmed. But when Ibou’s sister Khadi takes his place in their apartment, what starts as an awkward living arrangement becomes something more, and Ben finds that cynicism may be all a matter of perspective.

How can I convince my parents that joining the military will be a good life decision for me?
I am 20 years old, female, and I want to join the air force to be a medic. I have been thinking about joining the military for about 3 years, and I believe now I am mentally ready. I have a wonderful supportive fiance, and we will be getting married before I leave for boot camp. (We are not getting married just because I’m joining the military, we had already planned on it so don’t think I’m making an immature decision.) The only problem is my parents are totally against me joining. I’ve tried talking to them about it and I know that they will be supportive if I do decide to join, but they keep trying to talk me out of it. I’ve tried to tell them that the air force usually has shorter deployments, but it doesn’t matter to them. They are afraid that I will die. I’ve tried talking to them about a lot of different things. I want to join because I want to be apart of something bigger than me. They just want me to go to college to be a nurse and become a civilian nurse, but I want to join because I want to help the finest people in our country - the ones risking and giving their lives for us. If I could know that I am responsible for getting just one person back to their family alive, it would be worth it. It’s so much more to me than just traveling the world or paying for school. It’s saving lives - giving back to those who risk their lives for us every day. I’ve told my parents this but I don’t know if they’re listening. My stepbrother took his own life last year and it has been really hard on the family. I believe that’s why they are so against me joining. Death is always hard to deal with I guess - another reason I would like to join. It would be nice if I could save a soldier’s life so his/her family doesn’t have to go through what mine did. Any suggestions?
look guys my family is really close and although I will join either way, I’d really like them to be on the same page as me. I’m not just gonna say F*** You to the people who raised me and made me who I am today……..have a heart, sheesh……this is hard for them

dont need to. once you hit 18, BAM! go to the recruiting office and enlist. your parents dont like it, tough shit for them.

First off, RIGHT ON!

That’s a great attitude to have. Honestly, the decision is yours; completely yours. It sounds like you would like to have your parents approval, which is what any good child would do (I’m not calling you a child, just merely stating the respect for your parents) but you can go and join if you want to. You haven’t needed permission for a couple years. So, if you have this strong desire to do this, I say, do it!
You can try to stress that you will get the same, if not better, training in the military as you would at college and they will pay you to get it instead of having student loans, etc. Your local recruiter might be your best weapon at this time. They spend a lot of time convincing kids (17 year old) parents to sign papers to join the military. If you have not spoken to one yet, I think the time has come.

Because of what your parents have been through so recently with the death of your brother, they are hesitant to cut the apron strings for you.

Though their concern and worry for you is natural, you are an adult and the decision of what you choose to do for your profession is entirely up to you. If you are hoping to serve our nation and to serve in the medical profession, entering the military for training and education is a good way to prepare and to have a steady career.

It doesn’t preclude you working in a civilian capacity after your military commitment is over, unless you plan to make that your permanent career.

You can serve to fill a great need in our nation by becoming a nurse, and there is no guarantee that your service will send you to a battle zone or forward area.

Talk to your fiance and your family, but in the end, the decision of how you wish to use your life is up to you.

Being a parent and in the Air Force myself, I can understand where they may be coming from. I am an aircraft mechanic and I have been in for 9 years now. The Air Force does for sure have shorter and fewer deployments than sister branches. That doesn’t mean we don’t deploy, and it depends on if you go active duty, reserve or guard as to how often you may deploy. You also can get your schooling 100% paid for (depending on where/when, that is something to talk with a recruiter about) if you decided to join, do your 4 years and get out. I can tell you that there is such pride and a feeling of camaraderie with being in the military. In these times now, being a medic you may be deployed to Iraq / Afghanistan since there will always be a need for that profession being all the troops currently deployed. If you go to the Air Force website they actually have great videos of how Basic Training is and what to expect if you decide to join. Best of luck with everything, and hope I was of some help!

Just tell them it’s your decision and you respect their concern but this is something you have to do for yourself. I went through the same thing. I joined when I was 18 and my parents were not happy but supported me and couldn’t be happier. Great choice being a combat medic is tough but well respected. Go for it and build your career!

That’s tough, and I’m sorry for the loss of your brother, but you’re right. The issue with them might be a couple of things. the first I would definitely be because of the loss of their child and are very worried about losing another one. Second, your parents might have grown up either during or right after vietnam where there was a low approval of military service and a high amount of killed serviceman and women. The I was a recruiter about a year and a half after the iraq war started and had to deal with that a lot. the third I would say is the lack of knowledge. This isn’t their fault though, most news outlets are anti-military at the moment because the war started with a republican in office. You never hear about the good that’s happening, but always the bad. I’m glad to see that you are able to look past that and try to help people. I did the same thing, I was a firefighter in the Marine Corps. The best thing you can do is just sit them down as an adult and have all the materials that you can get from the recruiter and show them. You must be very strong in this, if you just let them walk away they will do the same thing every time. What you wrote in your question about wanting to help people, tell them that and be honest. Tell them that you are going to sign up, but you want them understand why and would like them to support your decision.Your parents will eventually come around. My mother didn’t come around until after I graduated boot camp and she saw how happy I was with military service. It might come to that with you too. I hope everything works out for you.

Accidental Husband, The (2008)

IMDB rating: 5.40

Plot: Emma Lloyd has made a career out of her sensible, mature and responsible approach to relationships. She has a hit radio talk show, an impending book deal, and a loving relationship with her fiance, Richard, a conventional sort-which is precisely what Emma is drawn to. Then Emma finds out that she is already married to a man she’s never met before, a result of a misguided prank that leaves her bewildered and very confused. Worse than that, her plans for the future are now threatened. With her wedding just around the corner, Emma must find the mystery man and obtain an annulment. Emma tracks down her “accidental husband” - Patrick, a charming and handsome neighborhood fireman, with a big secret…that he was behind the “accidental” marriage. Unable to fess up, Patrick goes along with the ruse pretending to be just as baffled as Emma. While at first their opposite approaches to life create much tension and chaos, Emma soon starts to admire his carefree passion for life and doubt her own conservative, button-down views on life and love. As Emma’s wedding draws near, she is faced with the choice between her safe life with Richard or the chance to live in the passionate and spontaneous world that Patrick inhabits.

the accidental husband?
why do they keep changing the release date for The Accidental Husband movie?

because they don’t know what they are doing or they are trying to have the opening day on a day where people can afford to go to increase their chances of a box office hit.
